#FrenchBride n°18 - Gwenaëlle
Gwenaëlle, in a princess dress, said "Oui!" to Laurent in August 2020 in Preisch castle. Gwenaëlle tells us everything about her fairy tale with the beautiful pictures of Sébastien Arts.
Laurent and I met in 2011 on Facebook. After many virtual conversations, we met in person and since then, we have never left each other. Two years later we moved in together to Nancy to continue our studies.
Our first Valentine's Day in our apartment in Metz was on February 14th, 2019. To celebrate the occasion, we didn’t want to go to a restaurant but rather preferred to organize a small intimate evening at home. We therefore planned to order food from an Italian caterer and spend a lovely evening together. Coming home from work, as I finished getting ready, Laurent asked me not to leave the bathroom until he allows me to do so. I played the game, it made me smile, thinking that he wanted to make an effort whereas he isn’t usually romantic!! As I left the bathroom, he asked me to close my eyes. When I opened them, I saw heaps of rose petals and candles laying on the floor leading me to the kitchen where, on the floor, there was a heart made with petals with a ring box in the center. Laurent, moved, asked me there to become his wife.
Even though we had been talking about it for a while, I didn't know when Laurent would really take the plunge. I was so happy and overwhelmed by this request. Especially since knowing him he had surpassed himself. It was so beautiful, the floor of our apartment was strewn with rose petals, there were also a lot of candles, he had set up a nice table under candlelight. Anyway, it was perfect, I couldn't have asked for better.
A French bride for you is…
For me a French bride is chic, elegant but also quite simple.
Your dress and style
For years I imagined the dress I would wear for the happiest day of my life. So I had a very clear idea of what I wanted but also what I didn't want at all. Thanks to Catherine from the “Benoit Bloch” boutique in Bouzonville, I found the perfect dress. She was gorgeous, a real princess dress without being too big. Very refined, adorned with lace. For my shoes, I chose pretty sandals from Minelli's Wedding collection. I wanted a heel that was large enough to be comfortable on the D-Day.
Our civil wedding ceremony took place in the East of France, in my childhood village and we celebrated our love in a breathtaking place on the Luxemburg border. I dreamed of a princess wedding with a cocktail and dinner in a charming place. When we visited Preisch castle, we immediately fell in love with this prestigious place. It was an exceptional venue for us. The dinner room with its exposed stones was magnificent not to mention the sublime English-style park that surrounded the castle.
We didn't have a specific theme but we wanted a chic romantic wedding. We first drew a lot of inspiration from Pinterest before working with Sandrine from Lovely Instant who did an amazing job. We had selected colors: old pink, white and a few touches of gold. We wanted pastel colors, in harmony, that matched well with our venue.
The most wonderful moment of the day
It was an amazing day, perfect from the beginning to the end. It will be forever etched in our memories. However, if I have to choose only one moment, I would say the secular ceremony that took place in the castle’s park in front of the chapel. The first glance exchanged with Laurent while I was walking up the aisle, the speeches by our relatives, each more moving than the other, our commitment vows, the exchange of alliances symbolizing our union ... Just so many moments that have filled us with happiness and love.
Given the health situation we are living, we have not yet planned a honeymoon ... However, I hope that we will be able to fly to a paradise island by next summer... This will be an opportunity to celebrate our first year of marriage and our 10 years of love...
